4 Tips for Furnace Repair

April 15, 2016

Springtime may technically be here but in Provo it’s not all warm and cozy outside. Your furnace has been going for months trying to keep your home comfortable, so now is the time to make sure you’re giving your furnace some TLC. If you hear funny noises or the heating system has turned itself off, you may be in need of a furnace repair. If you notice an intense gas smell, you almost definitely need furnace repair work and you should call Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning promptly.

Before you decide that you need a furnace repair technician, check out these tips from Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning.

  • Check that your thermostat is set to “heat.”

It may sound laughable, but we are always running and life happens, so it’s very easy to ignore the simple fixes. Neglecting to move over the thermostat can make you think you need furnace repair when really you can fix the problem with a literal flip of the switch!

  • Check your furnace switch.

On the topic of switches, make sure your furnace switch is on the up, or “on” position. Like we said, an easy miss, especially when you remember this switch isn’t one you actually look at frequently. Most furnaces have built-in delays so be patient when you turn your furnace on and give it a few minutes to get going before panicking about needing our furnace repair man.

  • Swap your furnace air filter.

You should swap out your home’s air filters no less than every three months to help your heating system run more efficiently and put off any furnace repair work. A dirty air filter is one of the most common reasons for poor performance in furnaces, and they can also be a breeding ground for germs and cause you and your loved ones to become sick. Replace your filter to keep both your furnace and your home healthy.

  • Check the circuit breaker.

Check your circuit breaker panel to see if the breaker that controls your furnace is in the middle position or the “off” position. If the breaker has ended up in the middle position, cycle the breaker to “off” and then reset it to the “on” position.

Furnace repairs can get expensive, so avoid a future issue altogether with seasonal maintenance from Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning. However, if you are ever in need of furnace repair, we are available 24/7/365 to service all your heating needs.
